Ao Lanah

17 miles from Ao Nang, Krabi

AO LANAH. 7° 46.133N, 98° 45.624E

Not the most picturesque bay on Phi Phi, but a handy anchorage in the northeast monsoon season for late arrivals from Krabi. Anchor in 10 metres on the sandy bottom well offshore. Take care not to enter too far into the bay, as it is closed by shallow coral.

The head of the jetty in the northern part of the bay leads to a footpath and a ten-minute stroll to the Holiday Inn and Phi Phi Island Village resorts.

Just south of the west headland of this bay is Ao Nui with an islet in front of a small beach. There is room for a single yacht just south of the islet off the fringing reef. Ashore is a track over the hill into a fisherman’s village in Ao Lanah. This is an excellent spot for a snorkelling on a stopover north or south from Phi Phi.
